Have I Lost My Mind?
The text saying my order was ready for pick-up contained instructions on how to use this service. I was to park in a designated area and call the number provided. An employee would come to my car and scan the text on my phone as proof my order could be picked up. The text and identification are required.
When I arrived it took me a while to locate the designated parking area. I followed the signs all around the huge parking lot. When I finally did, I proceeded to call the number supplied through the text on my phone. Wait, where was my cell phone? I looked in my purse, no phone. I emptied my purse on the passenger seat. No phone! I looked in the console. No phone. Impossible! I know I had it when I left the house. I looked under the seat, and on the floor, still nothing.
I couldn't call home to see if it was there because I had NO PHONE! Now this convenient service is not so convenient. Oh My God! I called myself all kinds of names, under my breath as I pulled out of the parking space. Martha, you birdbrain, no don't insult the birds. You idiot, you stupid fool, nitwit. Maybe I have dementia or Alzheimer's. No I'm just feeble-minded. What choice did I have? I had to drive home and find my phone. Fifteen minutes later I walked in the house feeling foolish for forgetting the most important tool for this process. I looked frantically all over the house, under papers, behind my quilt project, under magazines, under music sheets, the garage on the washer, even the patio. Where did I leave that thing?
Finally I had to admit to my husband what I had done and ask him to call my phone to make it ring. He rang my number. I heard my ringtone. It was very near, but I couldn't see where it was. I was spinning around the room looking under cushions and newspapers, trying to find it when my husband laughingly said, "Look in your back pocket". There it was and had been all the time. Embarrassed, frustrated, I was ready to give up the whole thing, but I had already paid for my pots. He laughed, I laughed. Finally after cooling down enough to laugh at myself some more I went back to the store and picked up my order.
